Week 3 part 2

Hello Everyone !

The third week has already come to an end. The students and the instructors are getting busier and busier with all the cool stuff we have awaiting ! On Thursday and Friday we went on our second excursion to Normandy ! We left at 715am on Thursday heading to St Malo first. This city is incredible by its architecture and its fortification all around it. We got there at 11am and had time to walk on the ramparts where we picnicked. The students then had half an hour to discover the city by themselves and go do some souvenirs shopping. We then left the city and headed to le Mont Saint Michel this famous historical monument registered on the list of World Heritage Sites. We visited the abbey at its peak and then we let the students wander around this "island commune" (always respecting the rule of 3 of course). We eventually left to head to the hostel we stayed at night which was located in Bernières sur Mer, a small town located next to Caen.
On Friday we woke up at 630am, ate breakfast at 715am and left at 8am heading to Omaha Beach. Once we got there, we could feel all among us the weight of the historical events which happened there. We then headed to the American cemetery. It was impressive to see thousands of graves going as far as the eye allows. Some students felt very emotional in this place and I think they really appreciated the place as it should be according to the way they behaved respectfully and also the look on their faces which clearly told how much they grew from this experience.
We eventually headed to Caen to visit the Caen's memorial which is a museum dedicated to WWII and also to the Cold War. There we met the IUHPFL group of students from St Brieuc and we spent a bit of time with them. No history lesson in class could compete with the museum and its hundreds of original pieces, films and images from WWII.
Finally, it was time to leave and head back to Saumur. We got there at 8pm on Friday. Honestly, it is impressive to see how much the students grew in only 48 hours.
